Chip Talk > Revving Up Automotive Innovation: IntoPIX and Lattice's Game-Changing Partnership
Published June 09, 2025
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, enhancing vehicle safety and automated driving capabilities remains at the forefront. Maintaining efficiency while processing vast amounts of data is a significant challenge. This is where the collaboration between IntoPIX and Lattice Semiconductor emerges as a pivotal solution.
IntoPIX has partnered with Lattice Semiconductor to integrate its TicoRAW and JPEG XS compression technologies into Lattice's low-power FPGAs. This integration aims to revolutionize in-vehicle vision systems by delivering high-quality image processing with reduced bandwidth requirements and latency.
The synergy between IntoPIX's lightweight compression IP cores and Lattice's FPGA architectures is designed to address the unique demands of the automotive sector. Lattice FPGAs are well-known for their low power consumption and compact size—credentials that are crucial for the space-constrained and power-sensitive automotive environments. The collaboration promises a drastic reduction in data flow without loss of critical image information, which is pivotal for AI-driven perception systems.
TicoRAW: Capable of compressing sensor data at the source, this technology eliminates the need for debayering—thus preserving all necessary image information without overwhelming the system with data. It ensures that critical information is available for AI-driven decision making.
JPEG XS: As a lightweight video codec standardized by ISO, JPEG XS assures quality that's near-lossless with sub-millisecond latency. Designed for real-time display systems and automotive networking, it facilitates seamless integration without the complex overheads associated with traditional codecs like H.264.
By innovatively incorporating these technologies, the joint solution from IntoPIX and Lattice reduces data bandwidth requirements by up to tenfold per camera, allowing a streamlined approach to automotive system architecture.
This integration not only overcomes traditional design barriers but also aligns with the global shift towards smarter and safer vehicles. As Justine Hecq from IntoPIX highlights, "Automotive vision systems are becoming increasingly complex, requiring more data, more speed, and less power."
The solution has already gained attention and will be showcased at the upcoming AutoSens 2025 in Detroit. This event will allow industry stakeholders to experience first-hand how high-resolution sensor capture and ultra-low-latency transmission can redefine automotive image pipelines. Integrating IntoPIX's compression technologies with Lattice's FPGAs marks a crucial step toward future-proof automotive solutions. By reducing the complexity and increasing the efficiency of vision systems, this partnership sets the stage for more scalable and efficient next-generation vehicles. The automotive industry has found a powerful ally in technology to drive forward innovation with confidence, promising a future where data-heavy processes do not compromise safety or efficiency.
